The following page lists the common problems encountered by our customers when installing eCAT . If you can’t find a solution or a solution does not resolve your problem then send us an email at support@researchspace.com.

  1. I have installed eCAT and it will not launch?
  2. eCAT fails to obtain a trial license?
  3. After I update eCAT, it lets me login but then throws an exception

1. I have installed eCAT and it will not launch?

This issue occurs when the password for MySQL has not been set to ‘catalyzer’ which is eCAT’s default MySQL password. You can easily fix this through the control panel by following these steps.

  1. Turn off eCAT
  2. Launch the control panel
  3. Select ‘Edit Database Settings’
  4. Delete the Database Username field. S0 it looks like the following screen shot.
  5. Select update
  6. Select ‘Sart eCAT’ and then ‘Browse eCAT…’

2. eCAT fails to obtain a trial license?

When this occurs send us an email at support@researchspace.com and we will send you a trial license via email which you can paste into the request a license form to start eCAT.

3. After I update eCAT, it lets me login but then throws an exception?

This is probably due to eCAT having an incomplete record index. If you look at the logs you you might see the following exception

Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\eCAT\tomcat\data\catalog\recordindex\_0.cfs
(The system cannot find the file specified)

To fix this simply stop eCAT and navigate to the record index folder found within the eCAT install folder in the above example that would be ‘C:\eCAT\tomcat\data\catalog\recordindex\’. Delete the contents of this folder. Then start eCAT which should function properly. If this fails to fix the problem then email us at support@researchspace.com and we will help you fix the problem.
