We are looking for an DevOps support engineer with prior industry experience, to work alongside our DevOps Lead and assist with the increasing support and operational requirements of a growing company in the scientific research sector.
RSpace is deployed as a SaaS offering on the cloud and on-premises on customer IT systems, and as we acquire more, larger customers, we have more work to do in supporting our customers, both on-premises and SaaS.
Key responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for our helpdesk, dealing with both end-user requests and technical tickets in accordance with customer SLAs. Tickets range from end user questions and password resets to technical tickets such as resolving issues with Tomcat, Apache, MariaDB & RSpace.
- Working with our on-prem customers to assist them in the configuration and support of their on-premises RSpace servers.
- Maintenance and upkeep of our cloud environment in AWS
Essential technical skills
- Strong current Linux admin skills on Debian 12 / Ubuntu 20.04 / 22.04
- Demonstrable competence in Bash scripting & Ansible
- Core skills in setting up and running web applications: DNS, SSL, Apache web server, HTTP protocols, Tomcat.
- AWS core services EC2, Security Groups, EBS, S3, IAM, ALB, VPC/networking.
- Experience with working in a helpdesk environment, escalation of tickets, prioritization of tickets, etc. (experience with Jira is useful but any helpdesk system will do)
- A strong security first mentality when performing any technical duties
Desirable technical skills and knowledge
- MariaDB admin and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with Version Control (specifically, Git / Github).
- Familiarity with RedHat Linux
- Familiarity with Docker or other container type-based systems
Required personal qualities:
- Highly articulate and literate in explaining complex solutions to stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written English.
- Courtesy and patience when dealing with on-prem customer IT staff.
- A willingness to learn and improve your skillset.
- An enquiring mind into seeking causes of defects, with the resolve and ingenuity to fix better.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload, managing on-call/responsive work with project work.
