The FAIR Digital Object (FDO) Implementation Summit, held in March 2024 in Berlin, Germany, marked a significant milestone following the success of the inaugural International FDO Conference in Leiden. Hosted at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Science, in the heart of the German capital, the summit brought together a diverse array of experts from around the world. Attendees included data scientists, architects, developers, stewards, curators, industry professionals, and policymakers, all dedicated to shaping the future of FDO implementations. Throughout the summit, which featured presentations, lightning talks, and exchange formats tailored to foster interactions, participants gained deeper insights into FDO concepts and implementation strategies. The event, which included training courses and a newcomers session, provided valuable opportunities for early career professionals to engage with the community.
One of the highlights of this even was the presentation delivered by Rory Macneil and Tilo Mathes on the 'Implementation of PIDs and Plans for FAIR Digital Objects in the RSpace Research Platform', offering valuable insights into the practical application of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) and strategies for ensuring the FAIRness of digital objects.
